Multi-coloured Kadur orbs filling a double-height library and dining room in Greenwich, Connecticut, by Shakúff

Custom Lighting Design in Connecticut

Shakúff is a hand-blown glass lighting studio in Industry City, Brooklyn. Both of our Connecticut projects are rooms with more height and more volume than a single fixture can comfortably answer.

In Greenwich, a grand cluster of multi-coloured Kadur orbs fills an open space shared by a dining room and a library. The second, finished in 2026 with Karen Asprea Studio, hangs four hundred and twenty pendants beneath a twenty-foot ceiling.

Rooms with height to fill

Both Connecticut commissions came down to the same problem, and got the same kind of answer: many small pieces of glass rather than one large object. Four hundred and twenty pendants staggered beneath a twenty-foot ceiling in one house; a grand cluster of multi-coloured Kadur orbs spanning a combined dining room and library in the other.

Monopoint grippers are what make that possible. Every pendant hangs on its own point, at its own height, so a fixture can occupy the full volume of a tall room without turning into a second ceiling above the table. The glass is hand-blown and the whole fixture is engineered and assembled in our Brooklyn studio, where most of our designs are also on display if you want to see them in person.

Connecticut projects

Our most recent completed project is here, and so is one of the few fixtures we have built to serve two rooms at once.

420 frosted Nimbus and Crystal Rock pendants layered beneath a twenty-foot ceiling in a Connecticut dining room

Connecticut · 2026 · Private residence

Connecticut Residence

Made with Karen Asprea Studio. Four hundred and twenty pendants staggered on monopoint grippers under a twenty-foot ceiling, forming a layered canopy above the table. Frosted Nimbus glass carries the ambient light; Crystal Rock pendants in clear, light amber and dark amber supply the depth.

Multi-coloured Kadur orbs above a dining table in a double-height Greenwich, Connecticut library

Greenwich · 2022 · Private residence

Granade Residence

A fixture with a practical job: fill one open space serving both a dining room and a library, without picking a side. Multi-coloured Kadur orbs, scaled to the volume, hung against the bookshelves so the room reads warm and close rather than merely large.

Questions from Connecticut clients

Do you work in Connecticut?

Yes. Two completed houses — Greenwich in 2022, and a second Connecticut residence finished in 2026, which is the most recent project in our case studies. Alongside those there are seventeen projects across New York, six in South Florida and two in New Jersey.

We have a twenty-foot ceiling. Can you fill it?

We have done exactly that. The 2026 Connecticut residence hangs four hundred and twenty pendants beneath a twenty-foot ceiling, staggered on monopoint grippers so they form a layered canopy rather than a flat plane. Height is rarely the obstacle; what matters is telling us the ceiling construction early, so the fixing can be drawn before anything is made.

Can one fixture serve two rooms?

The Greenwich house is the clearest example. Its dining room and library share one open space, and the fixture had to light and hold both without belonging to either. We scaled a cluster of multi-coloured Kadur orbs to the volume rather than to the table, which is the opposite of how a dining chandelier is usually sized.

Do you work with interior designers and architects?

The 2026 Connecticut residence was a collaboration with Karen Asprea Studio, and across the tri-state area we have also worked with Woods Bagot, Gensler, JDK Interiors, Designs by Debbie and Nicky Kahn. We offer a 10% trade discount for designers, and provide spec sheets and customised drawings on request.

Can we see the glass before committing?

Our showroom shares a building with the studio in Industry City, Brooklyn, and most of our designs are on display, so you can see the glass and the work in progress on the same visit. It is open Monday to Thursday 9am–5:30pm, Friday 9am–4pm and Sunday by appointment. We also partner with showrooms across the United States, and can send samples; those are charged, and the cost is reversed if you return them in good condition.

How long does a fixture of that size take?

Typically 10–14 weeks for a custom project and 10–12 weeks for a fixture from our catalogue, counted from when the invoice is paid, and a four-hundred-pendant installation sits at the custom end of that. Orders can sometimes be expedited for an additional fee, at our production manager’s discretion. Drawings come first and are free of charge.

Are the fixtures UL approved?

Yes. All our fixtures are UL approved, use LED exclusively, are dimmable, and run on 120V in the US. We do not install them ourselves — every fixture ships with detailed instructions and we work directly with your contractor and electrician.
