Custom Lighting Design in Miami
Shakúff is a hand-blown glass lighting studio in Industry City, Brooklyn. Every fixture that goes to Florida is designed, engineered and assembled on our own benches before it is crated and sent south.
Since 2017 we have made bespoke chandeliers, pendants and sconces for six spaces across South Florida — from a twelve-foot drop of ninety-six pendants in a Miami foyer to a single sculptural Twist down a Delray Beach stairwell.
A Brooklyn studio, working in Miami
We are not a Miami showroom, and we would rather say so plainly. Our glass is hand-blown by artisans selected personally by our founder, Joseph Sidof, and the design, engineering and assembly all happen in one Industry City building, by our own electrical engineers and electricians.
That has not stopped the work travelling. Two of the six were drawn to an interior designer’s scheme rather than picked from a catalogue — Jorge Castillo Designs on the Diplomat lobby, Ansana Interior Design in Boca Raton. If you are in Miami and want to see the glass in person first, the Brooklyn showroom has most of our designs on display.

Miami and the beaches
Four projects in Miami-Dade: two private houses, a hotel and a residential lobby. In the houses the fixture had to fill a tall volume; in the hotel and the lobby it had to pull people towards one part of the room.
Miami Residence
Ninety-six pendants on a seventy-five-inch canopy, dropping twelve feet into a high-ceilinged foyer. Clear and Gold Kadur Drizzle glass, picked to play off the palms and the pool it is seen against through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Surfside Residence
Four bespoke fixtures for one house on the barrier island. The entry carries a Nimbus organic cloud — forty-nine large pendants hung at different heights on monopoint grippers, in metallic colours mixed for this room. Bloom chandeliers, an Ivy Branch and a White Candle follow it through the house.

Yotel Miami
Four distinct chandeliers on four separate canopies, set so they read as a single fixture overhead. A sky of Nimbus clouds and Kadur orbs that pulls guests into one part of the room — designed and delivered against a tight hotel programme.

The Diplomat Lobby
A White Candle chandelier bent into a U around the reception desk on our monopoint gripper system, with custom sconces made to match and span seven feet. Chosen with Jorge Castillo Designs to suit a sleek, modern lobby.
View projectPalm Beach County
An hour up the coast from Miami, two houses where the fixture had to solve an architectural problem rather than just fill a ceiling.
Skillman Residence
A Twist running the height of the stairwell in a modern house built on clean geometry. We made the canopy to order with LED behind it, so the pendants and the ceiling light on separate switches.

Ansana Interiors
A ten-foot by two-foot fused glass Plice chandelier over the dining table, hung from a floating canopy cabled to the timber beams, which is how we got a chandelier look out of an unconventional ceiling. The kitchen island fixture was drawn before the house was built, staggering eight Tamar Wand pendants across a cross-beam ceiling.
View projectHow a Florida project runs
The same four steps as a project down the road from the studio. The distance changes the travel, not the process.
The space
We start with the room, the design you are drawn to, and the budget. Ceiling height, the span you want to fill and the architect’s elevations are more useful to us than a fixture name.
Drawings
We come back with recommendations on canopy size and shape, pendant count and finishes, as a presentation with customised drawings and a final quote. Drawings are free of charge.
The bench
Once the invoice is paid, fabrication begins in Brooklyn. Lead time is typically 10–14 weeks for a custom project, 10–12 for a catalogue fixture.
Installation
We do not install ourselves. We supply detailed instructions and work with your contractor and electrician. Most Florida clients already have a team they trust; our job is to make their installation go smoothly.
Questions we get from Florida clients
Do you take on projects in Miami?
Yes. Six South Florida projects are on this page, the earliest from 2017 and the most recent from 2024 — in Miami, Surfside, Delray Beach and Boca Raton. We also ship to Las Vegas, Dallas, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Scottsdale, Montreal, El Salvador and Tel Aviv.
How does it work if we are in Florida and the studio is in Brooklyn?
The design stage happens on drawings rather than in person: send us the ceiling height, the span and the elevations, and we come back with a scaled drawing, a pendant count and a quote. Fabrication is in Brooklyn. We do not install ourselves anywhere — we supply detailed instructions and work directly with your contractor and electrician. If you would rather see the glass before committing, we partner with showrooms across the United States and there is often one near you, we can send samples, and the Brooklyn showroom has most of our designs on display.
How long does a custom fixture take?
Typically 10–14 weeks for a custom project, and 10–12 weeks for a fixture from our catalogue. Orders can sometimes be expedited for an additional fee, at our production manager’s discretion — Yotel Miami was delivered against a tight hotel programme.
Do you work with interior designers and architects?
That is how most of this work arrives. The Diplomat lobby was developed with Jorge Castillo Designs and the Boca Raton house with Ansana Interior Design, drawing the fixture to the designer’s scheme rather than asking them to pick from a catalogue. We offer a 10% trade discount for designers, and provide spec sheets and customised drawings on request.
We have a double-height foyer or a stairwell. Can you fill it?
It is the most common reason people call us. The Miami foyer takes a twelve-foot drop of ninety-six pendants on a seventy-five-inch canopy. The Delray Beach stairwell takes a Twist running its full height. The Surfside entry carries forty-nine pendants hung at varied heights on monopoint grippers, so the cloud fills the volume without blocking the bay view.
Can the colour, size and canopy be changed?
Yes, and on these projects they were. Surfside got metallic glass colours mixed for the room. The Diplomat got sconces made to span seven feet to match its chandelier. Delray Beach got a canopy built with LED behind it, so the ceiling and the pendants light on separate switches. Boca Raton got a floating canopy cabled to the timber beams, so an unconventional ceiling could still carry a chandelier.
Are the fixtures UL approved?
Yes. All our fixtures are UL approved, use LED exclusively, are dimmable, and run on 120V in the US.
Beyond Florida
South Florida is one of several places the studio ships to. Our fixtures also hang in Las Vegas, Dallas, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, Scottsdale, Truckee, Montreal, El Salvador and Tel Aviv, alongside seventeen projects across New York.
