Custom Lighting Design in New York
Shakúff is a hand-blown glass lighting studio in Industry City, Brooklyn. Every fixture we make is designed, engineered and assembled here, a few miles from most of the projects on this page.
Since 2011 we have made bespoke chandeliers, pendants and sconces for seventeen spaces across New York — from the lobby of the borough’s tallest tower to a dining room in Scarsdale.
Made in Brooklyn, not imported
Our glass is hand-blown by artisans selected personally by our founder, Joseph Sidof. The design, engineering and assembly all happen in our Industry City studio, by our own electrical engineers and electricians. That is also where clients come to see the work in person — most of our designs are on display.
Being local matters on New York projects. We can meet a designer on site in Manhattan in the morning and be back at the bench by noon.

Brooklyn
Our home borough, and the one we have worked in most. Eight projects, from the tallest tower in Brooklyn to a home office with low ceilings.
The Brooklyn Tower
Chosen by JDS Development Group, working to Woods Bagot’s design, to fabricate the high-end metal fixtures for the borough’s tallest building. An eight-foot fixture of a dozen LED tube pendants hangs over the lobby desk.

Brooklyn Residence
Two Tamar Wand chandeliers tying an open-concept living and dining room together, sized for a low ceiling so the room keeps its air. With Designs by Debbie.

The Continental Hall
480 Dew pendants on four monopoint grippers, plus eight Ivy Branch sconces built from 120 more, flanking the doors of a Williamsburg wedding hall.

Williamsburg Residence
The largest Dew we had made at the time — over seven feet, 75 pendants in a subtle V. The clients wanted a local company that could build something larger than usual.

The Williamsburg Hotel
Over 300 pendants in the restaurant, and Kadur Drizzle in the water tower that reads like stars on a small planet after dark. Antique bronze brush, to suit the house style.

Lobbies, retail and showroom work where the fixture has to hold a very large room — or be seen from the street.
Waterline Square
274 Twist pendants under a 50-foot ceiling, with no canopy at all — a monopoint grip solution, visible from the West Side Highway.

One project, and the largest single installation we have built.

Over 2,000 hand-blown glass pieces and brass spheres above the bar, and 600 crystal rock pendants in the seating area in custom Pantone colours. Built with Gensler and the Capital One design team.

Five projects outside the city, mostly private homes where the fixture has to work around an unusual ceiling.
The Kitchen Guy
A Tamar Grande chandelier anchoring the main kitchen display, and a Willow installation of brass-and-glass pendants arcing above the conference table.

Four groups of branches filling an oddly shaped dining room around a table for sixteen, with Nimbus pendants clustered close and walnut caps on the metal. With designer Nicky Kahn.

A matte black Ivy Branch climbing the wall and across the ceiling of a black-and-white room, with restraint — the negative space is the point.

A large canopy suspended on cables to sit under a slanted ceiling, with gold Kadur Drizzle pendants — impactful, but never in the way of the garden.
View projectHow a New York project runs
Most of the work on this page started the same way — a room with a problem in it, and a conversation about budget.
The space
We start with the room, the design you are drawn to, and the budget. If you can get to Industry City, seeing the glass in person settles most questions quickly.
Drawings
We come back with recommendations on canopy size and shape, pendant count and finishes, as a presentation with customised drawings and a final quote. Drawings are free of charge.
The bench
Once the invoice is paid, fabrication begins in Brooklyn. Lead time is typically 10–14 weeks for a custom project, 10–12 for a catalogue fixture.
Installation
We do not install ourselves. We supply detailed instructions and work with your contractor and electrician — we aim to be the easiest element of the build.
Questions we get from New York clients
Can I see the fixtures in person in New York?
Yes. Our main showroom and production studio is in Industry City, Brooklyn, at 52 35th Street, and most of our designs are on display there. It is open Monday to Thursday 9am–5:30pm, Friday 9am–4pm, and Sunday by appointment.
Where are the fixtures actually made?
The glass is hand-blown by artisans chosen personally by our founder, Joseph Sidof. The design, engineering and assembly are all done by our own electrical engineers and electricians in our Brooklyn studio.
Do you install the fixture?
No. We provide detailed installation instructions for every fixture and work directly with your contractor and electrician. Most of our clients already have a team they trust; our job is to make their installation go smoothly and to be the easiest element of the build.
How long does a custom fixture take?
Typically 10–14 weeks for a custom project, and 10–12 weeks for a fixture from our catalogue. Orders can sometimes be expedited for an additional fee, at our production manager’s discretion.
Do you work with interior designers and architects?
Regularly. The New York projects on this page were made with Woods Bagot, Gensler, JDK Interiors, Karen Asprea Studio, Designs by Debbie and Nicky Kahn, among others. We offer a 10% trade discount for designers, and provide spec sheets and customised drawings on request.
Can you work with a sloped ceiling or an unusual room?
Yes — it is most of what we do. We can accommodate any ceiling angle; contact our sales team with the slope. Garden View on Long Island used a cable-suspended canopy for a slanted ceiling, and the Hamptons Residence combined a canopy with monopoint grippers to handle a severe height difference.
Are the fixtures UL approved?
Yes. All our fixtures are UL approved, use LED exclusively, are dimmable, and run on 120V in the US.
